Like a few games already this season, the Mustangs held a double-digit lead in the first half on Saturday afternoon versus the University of Nebraska – Kearney but slowly saw it dwindle to just a single point in the final minutes. Key plays, however, including a block, a crucial defensive rebound, and five attempts at the free throw line in the closing two minutes by DJ Nicholas (Glendale, AZ/Glendale High School) (Glendale, AZ), kept the Mustangs' winning streak going at three, 65-61. The Mustangs are close to .500 with a 7-8 overall record and a 3-4 record in RMAC play.
Nicholas finished with a double-double after a 19-point, 12-rebound game. He also recorded two blocks and two steals. Devin Stewart (Tucson, AZ/Santa Rita High School) (Tucson, AZ) pitched in with 17 points and six assists.
As a team, the Mustangs shot 41 percent from the floor (23-56) but continued to give a lack-luster performance at the free throw line, hitting just 9 of 15 attempts in the second half.
WNMU will start RMAC West Division play next week.
